Building a Community

‘Work is love made visible, and if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take of those who work with joy’ Khalil Gibran

Forgive me for quoting Gibran, but it’s so true. It has to be. It is the only way.

I had been mulling over the idea of starting Moot for years but it had always been sidelined because of family commitments, work commitments and a host of other reasons that seemed like good enough reasons not to do it.

In fact, what was actually stopping me was confidence. If I was going to start a business based on selling fantastic underwear exclusively for men, then I had to do it with integrity, and this meant putting myself forward to be the man behind Moot, rather than it being some faceless corporation.

I had no idea of how people would react to the idea of ‘fancy pants’ for men. I was a child of the 60s and grew up in a very ‘normal’ family - it was very clear that men didn’t discuss anything to do with emotions or sentiments, and although I have always been a bit of a maverick, who trod his own path, the truth is, I was worried about how people would judge me.

However, I knew deep down that I needed to create Moot. I adore wearing brilliant underwear. I love those subtle delicate elements; the colours, the materials and above all, the empowering feelings generated from wearing such stunning items.

So, after a long few years of work, on the 4th March 2020, Moot was launched.

And my worries of being harshly judged were so unfounded. My nearly-90 year old mother was, maybe, a little surprised, but fully embraced and supported what we were doing. My family think it’s great and you guys have been so kind with such lovely letters of support and encouragement.

Moot must stand for fantastic underwear, that fits as it should, that is beautifully made here in the UK and that will push the barrier - always.

For us to do this, we need your help.

I need to know what we do right and what we get wrong. What you like. What you want to see.

I need your feedback.

I will be doing a regular blog, talking about our products, the material, the supply chain, our models, future designs and much more. My hope is to give you an opening to help mould Moot into something that is more than a brand.

So please, give me the feedback I need to make Moot into the community and the company I know it will be.

Jules.
